Hosting over 1,200 clubs and student organizations, UCLA has something for everyone. This is a school where it is easy to find the connections to experience new things, as well as get involved on campus (something I highly recommend). As a student who lived on campus for two years, I can confidently say that the UCLA dining halls is some of the best college dining food you will ever find, and there are plenty of health options. Academics are rigorous, but they will prepare you well for any endeavors you might have after undergrad. My complaints about this school are that you are completely on your own to figure out course scheduling, and don't receive much help from counselors. Classes are often hard to get into, which can be extremely frustrating. Lastly, academic or research-focused club participation often requires an application and even an interview, making this school highly competitive for literally everything!

My daughter just completed her freshman year, and her experience was everything we hoped for and more!
Many professors are world-renowned in their field. The students my child is surrounded by are all outstanding, and that alone is a very important factor, as I believe students will tend toward the norm, which at UCLA is a high level of achievement. Surrounding oneself with world-class students will push you to greater achievement as well. Socially, UCLA has such a diverse student body that students have no problem finding "their people." Students at UCLA are academically driven, so the party scene is limited to weekends and not the 24/7 party atmosphere at USC ( a pay-to-play party school), but kids do Uber there for parties.
UCLA's campus is serene and conducive to studying, and students feel a strong, well-earned sense of pride and camaraderie. Alumni connections are strong not just because of mutual affiliation but also because they know those degrees are hard-earned!

My overall experience at UCLA has been pleasant. While living in the dorms, the food was great. There were healthy options and less healthy options. However, I enjoyed both! Although some complain that the walk to campus may be a lot, but I enjoy it. Although I love being a part of a large student body, it could get overwhelming at times. For example, finding a spot to sit in the food court or even the library could be difficult.
