I've added to the recipe myself to amp up the flavors and textures. If you want it to be super cheap just skip the rest of the ingredients. I saute half an onion, a cup of shredded carrots (lightly chopped), and italian seasoning with the lean italian sausage and drain off the fat. Then I add all the ingredients plus a can of rinsed white beans and sometimes add another can or box of tomatoes with a bit more salt. Let it all cook down for about 20 min then add the gnocchi. This is a great freezer meal if you don't add the gnocchi until the soup is thawed and heated; just bring to a boil and add. I love it!!!

This was perfect for an easy weeknight meal. We used pork italian sausage since that's what we had on hand. I also sautéed a little garlic in with the sausage and served the soup with some garlic toast. This delivers a lot of flavor with few ingredients, and is super easy to make.

I have made this many times and it is always a winner. I usually add a tablespoon of my homemade pesto to spice it up and have used kale instead of spinach, and added garbanzos or black beans. It is really filling and tasty with a green salad and crusty bread there are minimal leftovers maybe enough for an 8 oz cup the next day for my lunch!

This was a great recipe for a quick meal. I had a little more time so I added minced onion and garlic to the sausage while browning. Then I added beef stock and chicken stock (no water), the tomatoes and let simmer for about 15 minutes. Then I added the gnocchi and let cook until the gnocchi rose to the surface. I then added fresh oregano and spinach and let the spinach wilt. Served with French bread and grated Parmesan. Excellent!

I've made this several times now. Like others, I've upped the sausage to two links, and added spinach at the end. Unfortunately, there are never any leftovers because our teenaged son has a second helping before bed. Grrr.

After reading the reviews, I knew 1 turkey sausage link would not be enough for us so I used 4 links. I also used fire-roasted tomatoes instead of stewed. We really enjoyed this soup and it was a different way to use gnocchi. Served with the parmesan on top, and with some good crusty bread and a nice red wine. Will definitely make this again, so easy and quick.

Way good! I added tons of extra veggies--a drained and rinsed can of black beans, a little shredded cabbage, fresh green beans, chopped carrots, baby kale and chopped fresh yellow peppers. Added a bit more broth, but used chicken broth. It was delicious!! Took the leftovers to my coworkers and it disappeared in an instant. Will for sure make again. Fast, easy and very, very good!

I made this for my boyfriend on his birthday and it was yummy! I couldn't find the hot sausage so I used mild ground italian sausage and whole wheat gnocci. I spiced it up with Italian seasoning and crushed red peppers. It was so good that we forgot to add the Parmesan cheese! Trust me, it was great without it. Will make again soon!

Loved this recipe! So easy and quick. I did do subs though, added more veggies, some Sirarcha, and used a little pepper jack cheese instead of Parmesan. I used Basil flavored Gnocchi. Tip: If you use flavored or infused flavor gnocchi, make sure you allow it to simmer on low for a little bit in the broth so it can soak up the flavor more and rest. This will allow the flavored gnocchi taste to mellow and not over power the soup

This soup was great, very filling, and probably the easiest I have ever made. I used two turkey sausage links but no other changes. I made everything ahead of time and just stored in the pot in the refrigerator. At dinner time, pulled out the pot, brought it to a boil, threw in the gnocchi and 5 minutes late it was ready to serve. Don't forget the parmesan since that really adds the finishing touch.

Yum. I didn't vary much from the recipe except I used 2 1/2 sausage links and fire-roasted diced tomatoes and a tsp of Italian seasoning. So easy, I will definitely be making it again.

No joke. Awesome. I used 1lb of ground turkey seasoned with onions, bellpepper, sage, hot sauce and oregano because I don't like all of the sodium in sausages. Also used whole wheat gnocchi and it was soooo yummy.

I realize I'm just repeating what everyone else said, but this is a really fantastic recipe. Simple, quick, cheap, and tasty. I made a couple of minor changes. I also used two link instead of one. I prefer the petite diced tomatoes, so I used those and added a little dried basil and oregano. I also added a dash of ground red pepper to up the spiciness. I found it to be very filling for a soup. I went to a spin class 2 hours after I ate this and had no problems.

Great recipe. Really easy and quick. Made it exactly as listed except used 2 links and couldn't find hot turkey sausage. Had to use mild and added 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper. Wife and child both loved it. Had this buy itself for dinner and it was hearty & filling.

I'm giving this 5 stars, but only because I followed the advice of the previous reviewer's(Tastycook1) additions and my own addition of parsely at the end and as another reviewer did, I added more turkey sausage to make it harty enough for the husband.

Followed recipe except microwaved 1/4c chopped red onion & added to sausage. Even though this is superfast, prepped the soup base in advance so it could just be reheated with frozen gnocchi (the frozen take longer to cook than the shelf-stable). Not bad for a change.

Yummy! I made this soup today, with a couple of modifications. I added chopped onion and garlic to the sausage. I also added three cups of chopped kale before adding the gnocchi. I chose the generic brand of Italian stewed tomatoes and felt my soup needed more flavoring, so I added parsley, oregano, basil, two bay leaves and red pepper flakes. I love a kick. The soup was amazing. I forgot about the parmesan cheese, but didn't miss it at all. I'll be making this soup on a regular basis.

This was by far the easiest recipe I have tried in a long time, it took 10 minutes to prepare and tasted amazing! Most soups have to simmer for awhile to really soak up the flavor, but not this one. I went by the recipe exactly, besides the fact that I used 3 turkey link sausages instead of 1. ENJOY!

This is one of the best soup recipes ever. It comes together so quickly and is incredibly impressive. Serve with sourdough bread for dipping. This soup freezes well. This is on my permanent rotation. Perfect for a cold night!

This soup is so easy to make and it's delicious. I made a few changes to the recipes. I added 2 sausages-one mild, one hot. I could not find "Italian Syle" Stewed Tomatoes, so I used regular Stewed Tomatoes, and added a chopped clove of garlic to the sausage and then added dried basil, oregano and thyme to the sausage once the sausage was almost browned. I also used chicken broth instead of beef broth as my husband and I do not eat red meat. Even with two sausages, I didn't think there was enough meat so next time I will probably add 3-4 sausages. But it was so easy to make!

This is a great soup. Maybe one of the best soup recipes I have ever tried. I tried it with a tri-colored gnocchi from super target. It has spinach, tomato, and potato flavors. I would HIGHLY recommed it with that gnocchi. I have tried it with regular gnocchi as well. It is good too, but not as good! FYI...I made a double batch once just so that I could freeze some. It does not freeze well.

All the reviews were right! I've never cooked a 5 ingredient recipe that didn't need some kind of season before! I didn't add drop of salt! It was amazing...I think the Italian diced tomatoes and sausage really give it the perfect flavor!

I made this soup this morning to have for lunch today and it was delicious! The flavors melded together perfectly and felt totally full after one serving! Looking forward to leftovers throughout the rest of the weekend! I love how quick and easy this came together as well as how tasty the result was. Will definitely make again!

I must admit I was sceptical that a five ingredient recipe could really be worthy of five stars but I was desperate for a quick supper. So, we tried this recipe and it was delicious. The combination of flavors and textures is very satisfying and the starch of the gnocchi gives the soup extra richness and creaminess. We added extra salt but otherwise, made no changes to the recipe. It was SUPER quick and easy and we'll definitely make it again.
