The trident symbol can be found in Greek, Roman, and Hindu mythologies. So, it’s fair to say that the sign has a different meaning depending on the individual’s believes. In this case, images of the Devil carrying a trident spread around medieval times, causing people to associate the symbol with hell, power, and rebellion.
The construction method of the crochet Devil Trident is similar to making an amigurumi. You will first need to crochet the prong legs, trident handle, and three-prong tips individually. Then, prepare a pipe cleaner or a disposable chopstick to insert into the trident handle and prong tips to stabilize it. Finally, sew the prong tips to the handle, and you’re all done!

We used the same yarn as the one we crochet the amigurumi cat; it is light worsted weight in the US, DK in the UK and it is equivalent to 8-ply in Australia. The handle of the red devil trident is rigid and the size is 8.5″ long.
Depending on the yarn weight and crochet tension, your crochet trident could come out in slightly different sizes. If you are using a different yarn weight, a lighter yarn weight will produce a smaller trident, contrarily, a bulkier weight will produce a bigger trident. Please adjust the insert length according to the size of your trident.
Changing the yarn weight is always easier to adapt a crochet pattern to make the final product bigger or smaller. For example: if you want to make it as part of your barbie doll’s devil costume, you may use crochet lace thread. Using a bulkier yarn will instantly blow up the size of this crochet trident which is great for toddlers.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE DEVIL TRIDENT
- Crochet all parts by following the trident crochet pattern. Cut 2 pcs of 4" from craft pipe cleaners, bend each into half respectively, twist each of them a little so that they're stronger. I used a recyclable chopstick as the Devil Trident's handle which I kept from a food take-out..
- Insert the craft wire into the prong leg, followed by inserting the leg (round 1 side) into the prong tip. Sew the tip to the leg. Repeat the same to another pair of prong tip and leg.
- Insert Chopstick into the handle with the wider side going in first. Insert the handle (the last round) into the prong tip. Sew the tip to the handle.
- Sew the prong to the side handle, at 2.5" from the tip. Repeat the same to the prong at the opposite side of the first prong.
- Finally, bend the short prongs to make them pointing upward to complete the Devil Trident.
